Data Security

Privacy and security are closely related, but different concepts.

Privacy refers to the principles of how personal data is collected, used, shared, and disposed of, by departments.

Security refers to the technical safeguards used to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.

The Information Security unit of UC Santa Barbara’s Information Technology provides support to campus departments to ensure appropriate information security.

In the event of a security breach, immediately report the incident.
